Better healthcare services reach more residents in Wudang

Wudang district has continued its efforts to bring high-quality medical resources to the grassroots in recent years, making healthcare more convenient and accessible for local residents.

In 2019, Wudang district integrated its people's hospital, traditional Chinese medicine hospital, and maternal and child healthcare hospital into a single medical consortium along with five public community health centers, eight township health centers, and 76 village clinics.

At Xiaba Health Center, resident Bai Ju recently sought treatment for a persistent cough. After an initial examination, doctors determined that she needed a CT scan. Instead of asking her to register and wait in line again at the district hospital, the doctor issued the scan order directly. Bai was then able to go straight to the hospital for the examination. The cost was covered according to the medical insurance policy for primary-level healthcare facilities, while the results were sent back to the health center in real time, eliminating the need for duplicate examinations and payments.

Yang Jiangtao, a general practitioner at Xiaba Health Center, said the arrangement allows the center's doctors to make more accurate diagnoses with access to advanced examination equipment, while residents can receive more sophisticated medical services at lower primary-level healthcare rates.

Wudang has also dispatched more than 150 medical workers to grassroots medical facilities to provide consultations, conduct ward rounds, and offer training. Doctor Wu Fengli said that after working at the health center for more than a year, medical services have become more standardized, and the facility can now provide pre-hospital emergency care for critically ill patients – something it could not do before.
