Rural residents in Guiyang's Wudang district are gaining easier access to quality traditional Chinese medicine services after the completion of 12 standardized village clinics under a rural healthcare program.

At Wangjiazhai Clinic, 85-year-old resident Deng Huizhang recently received moxibustion treatment for knee pain. "It feels warm and relaxing. My knee is much less stiff now," he said after the session.

The upgraded clinic is one of 12 village-level healthcare facilities renovated with more than 116,000 yuan ($16,934.31) in government support funding. The project aims to improve grassroots healthcare services and bring affordable traditional Chinese medicine closer to rural communities.

The renovated clinics now feature separate consultation rooms, treatment areas, pharmacies and public health spaces, along with updated medical equipment. Services including acupuncture, moxibustion, massage therapy, and cupping are now available locally, reducing the need for villagers to travel long distances for treatment.

Village doctor Liu Huan said the clinic has also expanded its stock of Chinese herbal medicines and standardized treatment procedures. "In the past, the clinic only had a desk and a medicine box. Now villagers can receive professional traditional Chinese medicine therapies right at their doorstep," he said.

The district selected the 12 clinics through a skills competition evaluating village doctors' service capacity and traditional Chinese medicine expertise. Medical specialists from major hospitals have also been invited to provide regular training for local healthcare workers.

Officials said the program follows national standards for township-level traditional Chinese medicine services and aims to strengthen the role of village doctors as frontline healthcare providers.

All 12 standardized clinics have now been completed, providing residents with more convenient, affordable and diversified medical services in rural areas.
