"Now that there are more charging stations, it's much more convenient for us delivery workers," Li Xinghua, a courier who was charging his electric delivery bike, said on Oct 26 at a smart charging and battery-swap station near the branch campus of Guiyang Wudang District Experimental Primary School.
Wudang district began focusing on improving both the safety and convenience of electric bike charging in 2024.
With a total investment of about 248 million yuan ($34.84 million) by Guiyang Wudang Quanyun Tourism Service Management Co, the project aims to build a "safe, smart, and low-carbon" charging system. Approximately 300 smart charging and battery-swap stations will be constructed across the district by the end of 2026, adding 13,400 new charging ports.
The project prioritizes densely populated areas such as the Wudang District Experimental Primary School. Each smart station is equipped with infrared cameras for automatic identification (issuing an alert within 30 seconds if abnormal battery temperature is detected), automatic fire extinguishing devices, and smoke alarms. A digital monitoring platform provides real-time supervision of station operations, significantly enhancing charging safety.
