The Third Ward of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, jointly established by the First People's Hospital of Guiyang and the Wudang District Medical Consortium General Hospital, has recently begun operations. This new ward enables local residents to access tertiary-level medical services without having to leave the district.

Wudang District Medical Consortium General Hospital is the only public non-profit medical institution established by the Wudang government. It was created through the integration of the Wudang District People's Hospital, Wudang District Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and Wudang District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The consortium oversees five public community health service centers, eight township health centers, and 77 village clinics.

The new ward now routinely provides diagnosis and treatment for both common and complex conditions such as hepatobiliary stones, pancreatic diseases, and liver tumors and offers full-comprehensive services from preoperative assessment to postoperative recovery.

The team successfully performed a laparoscopic-to-open conversion choledochotomy with stone extraction and cholecystectomy on a patient named Lin, who was diagnosed with choledocholithiasis, acute cholangitis, Mirizzi syndrome type II, and acute suppurative cholecystitis – a highly complex and risky condition.

During the operation, the Wudang local surgical team diagnosed severe intra-abdominal adhesions and unclear gallbladder anatomy, prompting a timely conversion to open surgery. Under on-site guidance and in collaboration with Yang Fan, associate chief physician from the First People's Hospital of Guiyang, the team precisely separated the adhesions and successfully removed the stones, completing the procedure smoothly.
