Starting from the beginning of 2025 until May 21, Wudang district added 377 new summer resort homestays, marking a major leap in its seasonal tourism industry. The area has become a favored destination for elderly visitors from Sichuan, Chongqing, and other regions seeking cool summer retreats and wellness stays.

In Xinpu Bouyei township, locals have planted flowers and fruits around homestays, offering guests a serene countryside experience with the joy of fruit picking. In Pianpo Bouyei township, homestays blend with traditional Bouyei culture, from architecture to interior design, providing visitors with an immersive ethnic experience. In Yangchang town, nearly 200 homestays have been developed around the 4A-level Flower Painting Town Scenic Area.

This boom in homestays has opened new income channels for villagers. Many have renovated idle homes into profitable guesthouses. Deng Wencheng, a young person who has returned to Xinpu Bouyei township to start businesses, transformed his riverside property into a floral and fruit-filled retreat that is fully booked through October.

Lin Song in Yangchang village, Yangchang town, earned over 200,000 yuan ($27,837) in just two months last year. He's now expanded with a new 30-room homestay, adding elevators, private bathrooms, and more to meet the needs of senior guests.

"Last year, our village received over 5,000 tourists and generated 12 million yuan in income," said Ou Chunlin, Party secretary of CPC Yangchang village committee. "This year, over 1,200 bookings have already been made."

To further enhance the tourist experience, villagers have also contributed to the construction of new asphalt roads, providing labor and materials themselves.
