Wudang district has made substantial efforts to improve rural living conditions, transforming many villages into popular summer destinations for tourists to escape the summer heat. This has significantly increased the momentum for rural vitalization.

Thirty-nine dilapidated structures have been demolished, 10,659 household bathrooms have been upgraded (98.5 percent coverage), and 21 livestock pens have been renovated. Wastewater is treated through eight sewage plants and 1,057 decentralized systems, achieving 100 percent of coverage. Garbage collection systems cover all villages with over 30 households, operating at an efficiency rate of over 99 percent.

In Matou village, 58 summer homestays are now operational, including 30 that opened this year. Homestay and agritourism businesses earned over 100,000 yuan ($13,868) per household last year, and the district plans to add 400 new summer lodgings this year.

In sanitation, 115 of 472 new public bathrooms have been completed, three treatment projects are underway to benefit two villages, and in dispersed settlements, wetland systems paired with toilet upgrades ensure eco-friendly management.

Wudang district's model shows how rural vitalization and green development can go hand in hand.
