Celebrated on the third day of the third month in the Chinese calendar, the Sanyuesan Festival is a time for Bouyei people to don festive attire, gather, and express their love for life through song.
The event opened with an immersive intangible cultural heritage performance. This was followed by a lively display of local music and dance, including the Miao Huagun (flower-decorated stick) dance, Bouyei folk songs, and the bench dance, each highlighting Wudang's rich ethnic traditions.
The "Cilihua" (Rosa Roxburghii) Singing Competition saw 19 teams from Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture and Guiyang competing for the top prize. The festival also featured a spring market, a creative cultural fair, sports competitions, and a hands-on mushroom-picking experience.
As night fell, the Guiyang Roadside Concert and a grand tanghuo (bonfire) brought the festivities to a climax. Bouyei villagers and guests from various ethnic groups gathered around the fire, singing and dancing in joyful harmony.
