The Binhe Town weekend specialty market, located in Xiaba town, Wudang district, opened on Nov 30. On its first day, the market bustled with activity, attracting over 18,000 visitors and generating transactions exceeding 3 million yuan ($413,400).
To better promote the weekend specialty market to Guiyang residents, Xiaba town organized over 90 volunteers to distribute flyers in high-traffic areas such as Dayingpo, Qianlingshan Park, Guigang Flower and Bird Market, and Sanmin East Road. They also used new media platforms to share market announcements, providing detailed information about the schedule, location, and transportation options.
On the opening day, the town government prepared 100 kilograms of glutinous rice for visitors to make their own ciba (glutinous rice cakes). These freshly made ciba, which could be taken home for free, created a lively and joyful scene that added a vibrant, festive touch to the market. The town government also distributed 5,000 free eggs to marketgoers.
Xiaba town ensured a sufficient supply of fresh vegetables and agricultural products to meet visitors' shopping demands. The town expects to cultivate 4,933 mu (328.87 hectares) of various vegetables, with a seasonal yield of 7,421 metric tons. It also anticipates 107 tons of specialty fruits and nuts, such as strawberries, kiwis, persimmons, and chestnuts. The town will also raise 1,900 pigs, 110 cattle, and 23,000 poultry, and produce over 3.83 million eggs.
