In recent years, Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has attached great importance to developing the pharmaceutical industry, taking it as the leading industry to promote the district's new industrialization and industrial development.
As of 2022, the total output value of the district's pharmaceutical industry above designated size was 5.88 billion yuan ($816.14 million), accounting for 37.8 percent and 19.6 percent of the pharmaceutical industry in the city and the province, respectively.
Since the 1990s, an array of pharmaceutical enterprises have set up operations in Wudang, such as Xintian Pharmaceutical Co, Jianye Pharmaceutical Co, forming a pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster centering around Luowan Yunjin Industrial Park.
In 2013, Guiyang and Wudang launched a series of policies to support the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
Wudang is currently home to more than 40 pharmaceutical and related industrial enterprises and 12 industrial enterprises above designated size.
Over the years, the district has promoted the digital transformation of pharmaceutical enterprises in order to improve the quantity and quality of the industry.
Xintian Pharmaceutical Co invested over 70 million yuan in building the province's largest intelligent three-dimensional warehouse, integrating supply, production and marketing.
The intelligent warehouse project, adopting the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing and other technologies, improves the space utilization rate of warehousing, saves on warehousing costs, and greatly improves inventory capacity.
The project is expected to meet the development target of 3 billion yuan in output value and add 1.1 billion capsules to the company every year.
To date, over 60 percent of the district's pharmaceutical enterprises above the designated size have carried out digital transformation.
In addition to digital transformation, Wudang has also introduced the Sinopharm Western Medical Industrial Park, leveraging the park to boost the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
