From January to April, the total output value of the pharmaceutical industry above designated size in Wudang district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was 2.61 billion yuan ($366.18 million), a year-on-year increase of 14.3 percent, according to a recent report by the district government.

Wudang is the only district in the city to place such a focus on the pharmaceutical industry, and it has attached great importance to developing the industry in recent years.

Wudang has established a pharmaceutical industry cluster focusing on the production of proprietary Chinese medicines, supplemented by chemical preparations, medical devices, pharmaceutical packaging materials and excipients.

The district is home to more than 40 pharmaceutical and related industrial enterprises and 12 industrial enterprises above designated size.

Pharmaceutical enterprises in the district hold 149 drug codes, including for 105 traditional Chinese medicines and 44 chemical drugs.

What's more, Wudang boasts 33 exclusive varieties and 17 varieties of Miao ethnic medicines.

Regardless of the size of the industry, the scale of the enterprise, or the number of drugs, the district occupies an important position in the pharmaceutical industry in the city and the province as a whole.

The district will continue to help high-quality pharmaceutical industry enterprises grow and expand, build 400,000 square meters of factories to service Sinopharm Western Medical Industrial Park, and attract key enterprises to set up operations in the industrial park.
