The water ecological protection and restoration work on the Wudang section of the Gaojian River is 90 percent complete.

The river is located in Daba village in Wudang district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

"The project mainly relies on three methods: source control, pollution interception, and ecological restoration," said Qin Renrong, technical director at Guizhou Zhibo Construction Engineering Co.

The project treats a 2.8-kilometer stretch of the river, mainly focusing on the construction of sewage interception pipe network and decentralized sewage treatment facilities, as well as the collection of domestic sewage in Daba village.

The planted aquatic plants are able to reduce the nitrogen and phosphorus content in the pollutants through the absorption and purification of the roots, as well as improve the self-purification and holding capacity of the water.

In the past, the river's ecosystems were severely damaged, as many livestock and poultry breeding farms were located alongside it, and the surrounding domestic sewage and farmland drainage were directly discharged into the river without treatment.

The project will not only alleviate water pollution and improve the water quality, but also give the entire river a whole new look and form a beautiful river bank.
