Wudang advances agricultural modernization

In recent years, Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is advancing agricultural modernization by adjusting its industrial structure.

In so doing, great efforts have been made in setting up vegetable, fruit, tea, traditional Chinese medicine and flower bases.

To improve the quality and efficiency of vegetable planting quality, Wudang has carried out scientific research on key agricultural technologies and promoted the application of vegetable planting technologies.

Meanwhile, multiple channels for distributing agricultural products have been established to boost sales.

In 2021, 156,900 mu (10,460 hectares) of vegetables were planted in Wudang which had an output of 259,800 metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 30.5 percent and an output value of 963 million yuan.

To boost the fruit industry, Wudang has cultivated its own brands including Xiaba cherries, Ali bayberries, Pianpo strawberries and Baiyi pears.

While boosting fresh fruit marketing, Wudang has also developed primary processing based on pre-cooling, grading and packaging, and finished processing based on the development of fruit juice, fruit wine and dried fruit.

At present, Wudang is home to 30 high-quality fruit operators, with 100 percent of fruit sampling tests meeting standards.

To develop its tea industry, Wudang has advanced the export of green tea, black tea and matcha tea and boosted the deep processing of beverages that contain tea as an ingredient.

Currently, there are 13,400 mu of tea gardens in Wudang, with 10,000 mu put into production.

A provincial-level modern agricultural demonstration industrial park has also been built in Wudang.

Additionally, Wudang has 89 nurseries with a total area of 5,227 mu, has applied for eight plow and seeding patents, and has established two large-scale seedling and flower trading markets.
