The first Guizhou-Guangdong freight train debuted in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 27. At the same time, a train departed from Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, to Guiyang.

The two trains marked the official start of operations for the Guiyang international dry port, and the opening of a rail freight route between Guizhou and Guangdong.

The train departed from Guangzhou carrying household and kitchen appliances and will switch to the China-Europe Express at the Guiyang international dry port and head to Vorsino, Russia.

The Guiyang international dry port is located in the center of Guizhou and has a planned area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares). The first stage of 910 mu has been constructed and can transport 8 million metric tons of goods per year.

The port provides customs, tax, banking and foreign trade services, allowing companies to handle tax refunds and foreign exchange settlement issues quickly and conveniently.

Ports, shipping companies and freight forwarders have set up offices at the Guiyang international dry port to provide foreign trade companies with abundant resources related to shipping routes, cargo space booking and shipping containers.

According to Guizhou Railway Investment Group Co, the dry port is equipped with all port functions except loading the goods onto ships. When the goods are declared to customs, they can be shipped or pass customs clearance directly, which can save costs for foreign trade companies.
