Rural residents in the Wudang district of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, are nowadays getting a real boost from an upgrade to the area's road network.

According to Liao Bin, director of the Wudang district transportation bureau, the district has increased its investment in transportation infrastructure. It has also speeded up its development as a regional transportation hub in recent years.

A transportation system with expressways as the main driver -- and with improved county and township roads as the support and improved rural roads completing the network -- has gradually taken shape.

Currently, the road mileage in Wudang has reached 858.5 kilometers. Of that, there are three expressways a total of 62 km long, four provincial roads stretching a combined 98.9 km, 22 county-level roads totaling 170.7 km in length, 26 township-level roads 120.5 km long, as well as 126 village roads stretching 211.9 km.

In line with the improvements to the road infrastructure, Wudang is striving to build an efficient and convenient public transport system.

Currently, all eight townships and five sub-districts under the jurisdiction of Wudang have access to buses.

The accessibility of passenger buses in villages is understood to have reached 100 percent.

The convenient road network and transportation system in Wudang have significantly shortened the travel times within the district.

Additionally, good transport conditions have brought more tourists from outside the district to go sightseeing, pick fruit and vegetables, enjoy the hot springs, or enjoy farm homestays. It has brought in extra income to residents, by driving the integrated development of tourism and agriculture forwards.
