A delegation led by Wang Fei, deputy head of Wudang – the district located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – on Dec 3 visited each geopark site under the district's jurisdiction, in order to inspect the implementation of their in-place protection and management procedures.
Delegates listened to reports from various departments on how to further improve the geopark protection and management work, existing problems and extensively discussed future governance work.
Wang requested departments to strictly follow the "Guizhou Provincial Geological Environment Management Regulations", the "Geological Relics Protection Management Regulations" and regulations on the management and protection of geoparks issued by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Natural Resources and the Guizhou Provincial Forestry Bureau.
He asked relevant departments to investigate the current situation for the Wudang's geoparks at the provincial level and to do a tip-top job on their environmental assessment and monitoring. He also asked them to reduce the risk of geological disasters in the area and to strengthen the monitoring of the geological environment of the mines in the geoparks.
It's understood that all illegal acts on cultivated land, forest land and water areas must be investigated and dealt with in accordance with the laws and regulations – and that their original appearance shall be restored in a timely manner.
Meanwhile, it is deemed necessary to reasonably take into account economic construction in the location of the geoparks and the production and living needs of residents – as well as explore roads for their protection and utilization.
