Wudang makes five-year development plan

Wudang district – located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – recently set out its development plan and goals for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

Under the plan, it will work diligently to expand industrialization and urbanization, tourism sector commercialization, and agricultural modernization.

Its goals will be to achieve an improved industrial structure, streamlined infrastructure, full urban renewal coverage, stronger business competitiveness, and better resident services.

According to the plan, by 2025, Wudang will form industrial clusters dominated by medicine and medical equipment, electronic information, and health food.

The development quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of the regional health industry will be significantly improved, and the quality and proportion of industrial economic development will grow significantly.

It will also achieve rapid development in the modern agriculture, all-for-one tourism, and modern service industries.

By 2025, Wudang's GDP is anticipated to exceed 32.5 billion yuan ($4.88 billion), and the regional economic aggregate will achieve a higher proportion of the city's ranking.

Wudang's permanent population is expected to reach 500,000, including an urban permanent population of 400,000, with an urbanization rate of about 80 percent.

Leading by big data, implement an innovation-driven strategy

It will strengthen and optimize the digital economy—cultivating new formats and models, and continuously improve the digital and intelligent levels of traditional industries.

It will also accelerate the development of the software information technology service industry, electronic information manufacturing industry, and information communications industry to consolidate the foundation for the development of the digital economy.

By 2025, the total output value of the district's electronic information technology and electronic information manufacturing industries is expected to exceed 15 billion yuan.

It will also further promote the construction of the "1+N" big data industry system and the application and innovation of big data for government, civilian, and commercial applications, and cultivate leading big data companies and core competitive brands.

By 2025, more than 10 provincial-level benchmarking projects will be built, and 30 intelligent transformation projects will be implemented.

Additionally, in order to enhance the capability of independent innovation in scientific and technological innovation, Wudang will build an open and cooperative diversified innovation and entrepreneurship system, help universities, scientific research institutes, and enterprises carry out in-depth scientific and technological research and development cooperation, and implement the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.

By introducing new institutions, building new platforms, creating new technologies, developing new products, and expanding new markets, Wudang will drive the innovation, upgrading, and development of the healthcare industry. By 2025, more than three new R&D institutions will be set up, and more than 100 high-tech enterprises are expected to be established.

Promote integrated development and enhance urban development

In terms of new industrialization, Wudang will focus on the development of leading industries such as medicine, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and specialty foods.

The planning and construction of the Guizhou Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Device Industrial Park will be accelerated. It attaches heavy importance to the development of traditional Chinese medicine, chemical medicine, biological medicine, and medical devices.

Wudang strives to create a new hub for the development of the province's large health industry with traditional Chinese medicine and medical device manufacturing as the main industries.

By 2025, the total industrial output of Wudang is expected to exceed 50 billion yuan, the cumulative industrial investment is expected to surpass 42 billion yuan, and the number of industrial enterprises above designated size is expected to reach 180.

To speed up new urbanization, Wudang plans to build a modern comprehensive transportation system, strengthen regional transportation coordination, implement urban road smoothing projects, and sort out broken roads.

The schedule will include implementing projects for convenient urban and rural access, speeding up the renovation of roads in villages and towns along the Guikai Line, and effectively improving travel efficiency.

By 2025, the urban built-up area will exceed 45 square kilometers, and the per capita urban road area will exceed 15 sq m.

With regard to agricultural modernization and tourism sector commercialization, Wudang will continue to consolidate and expand the results of poverty alleviation, implement the strategy of rural revitalization, and accelerate the construction of a modern agricultural industry system, production system, and management system.

By 2025, the total output value of the agricultural product processing industry above designated size in Wudang is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan, and 10 demonstration sites for rural revitalization will be established.

During the same period, the total revenue of Wudang's tourism industry is expected to exceed 30 billion yuan, and the construction of a national-level tourism demonstration zone for all-for-one tourism will be promoted.
