Part of the national tai chi fitness promotion for the elderly, the Guizhou event was held on May 19 in Zhenhua Square in the Wudang district of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Hosted by the Guizhou elderly sports association, it attracted the participation of more than 800 elderly fitness enthusiasts. The event was held to promote tai chi among seniors and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Participating teams put on tai chi and kung fu fan performances.

In 2020, Wudang district was named by the Chinese Veteran's Sports Association as one of the first batch of 60 national elderly tai chi hometowns.

The district has promoted tai chi in towns, villages, communities, institutions, companies and schools. It currently boasts more than 180 elderly tai chi teams, with more than 22,600 members, accounting for 47.3 percent of the elderly population in the district.
