Wudang district -- administered by Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has achieved great results in turning itself into a tourism demonstration zone, according to local officials.

Since Guiyang was included into the list of places to build into a national tourism demonstration zone in 2016, Wudang district's total tourism revenue has increased by an average annual rate of 35 percent.

In 2019, the total tourism revenue in Wudang reached 13.89 billion yuan ($1.99 billion), and the district received a total of 23.08 million tourists.

During the same period, the number of tourists received from outside the province increased by 27.8 percent year-on-year, and the number of foreign tourists received increased by 35.2 percent year-on-year.

In recent years, the government of Wudang has issued a series of policies to support tourism as a pillar industry in the district. These policies have involved setting up special tourism development funds, providing loan discounts, incentives and subsidies and finance.

Wudang has also improved its transportation facilities and tourism services to attract tourists, officials said.

A three-dimensional transportation network has been established -- with convenient access to the Guiyang East High-speed Railway Station, the Airport Expressway, the loop roads of Guiyang North High-speed Railway Station and the Guiyang-Wongan Expressway by inter-city express trains, city sightseeing buses and dedicated tourist buses.

In addition, the government of Wudang is cultivating multiple tourism programs featuring hot spring spas, countryside sightseeing and minority ethnic culture experience adventures.

Officials said that thanks to its all-round efforts in tourism development, services and promotion, Wudang is fast gaining a reputation as a garden city.
